Jesus: Good news

good news!

"FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE."

- John 3:16

The word "gospel" means "good news." Good news is needed because unfortunately there is bad news. The bad news? We're all sinners—lost and separated from God. The Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." It is our sin that keeps us out of heaven. The prophet Isaiah tells us that our sins have separated us from God and have caused His face to be hidden from us. Spiritually, we are "dead in trespasses and sins."

And this is where the good news comes flooding in. Jesus told us why He came into the world: "to seek and to save that which was lost." Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins; He took our place by dying the death that we deserve. Jesus paid a price He did not owe because we owed a price we could not pay. The wages of sin is indeed death, but the Bible gives the solution: "the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Jesus died, rose from the grave thus defeating death, and ascended to heaven. In short, there is no such thing as "good news" unless Jesus is at the center of it.

He offers us a gift: the free gift of eternal life. We cannot work for it. There are no good works that will cause us to earn it. We do not deserve it; the offer of salvation is an offer to be received in faith. It's a free gift to us because it was paid by Jesus Himself when He took our place on the cross! God loves you! His greatest proof is found in Jesus' death on the cross. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one can come to the Father except through Him. There's only one way - Jesus!

If you repent and are converted—that is, if you will turn from your sins and turn to God—your sins will be blotted out, you will find redemption, the forgiveness of your sins, and you'll find true peace with God. By placing your faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross, you will be saved from an eternity in hell and saved to an eternity in heaven.

Do you believe?

If you would like to ask Jesus to be your personal Lord and Savior, pray this prayer:

Jesus, I confess to you that I am a sinner. I turn now from my sins and turn my life over to You. I come to You and ask You to forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Jesus, I believe that You are the only way of salvation; You are the only way to heaven. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I place my faith in you. I believe that by trusting You, I am now a child of God and that I am going to heaven. I receive by faith your free offer of eternal life.

In Jesus' name, amen.

If you have prayed that simple prayer, welcome to the family of God!
